Comment on Receiving to Palenque by Mattew
Your closest airport to Palenque is Villahermosa (VSA) and then about two hours by bus to Palenque. I guess your route are going to be MCO-MEX-VSA

Read MoreFollowing reading critiques of El Panchon I’ve to check this place out. I’ll be in Chaipas with my 20 year old son May well 10-16. Can you make reservations at El Panchon or do you just take your chances? Any opinions on finding a private guide for “off the beaten path” adventures? Peace.
Read MoreOn our latest trip to Palenque, my wife and I dropped in at Mayabell and had been not to impressed. Now, El Panchan where we ended up was cool. Inexpensive clean cabanas (150 peseos in November 2005) and also a excellent restaurant and bar. I would recomend Chuys Cabanas. It really is definately walking distance for the ruins from El Panchan for those who don’t mind walking about 1 mile approx. Admission for the ruins is $3US (35 pesos) and you may need to pay a $1US (10 Pesos) admission for the National Park on the way in by colectivo, not confident about walking in.

There’s an overnight bus to Palenque…it is 14-15 hours even though. I can think about that such a long drive will be unbearable, specially taking into consideration the unpredictable road conditions in Chiapas. Conceivably, you may fly to Villahermosa and then take the bus to Palenque from there (about 3 hours).
Read MoreHi, I’ve exactly the same trip as you from Villahermosa to Palenque (arriving by plane at five p.m.) but few weeks earlier. Did you locate the facts from which bus station is departing the bus at 7 p.m.? thanks for info
Read MoreI doubt there is going to be any challenges taking the bus from Villahermosa to Palenque at night. Just ask the driver to let you know after you are in Palenque in case the bus is going further. Palenque is actually a little town. There will probably be at the least a 20 minute cab ride from the airport to the bus station–Villahermosa is quite spread out. Villahermosa is just not a huge tourist destination but it is worth checking out Parque La Venta to view the Olmec heads and a fairly good zoo with terrific jaguars. There’s also an exceptional archeology museum in town. I would suggest staying inside a hotel ideal downtown on the primary shopping strip named “Zona Luz”, a pedestrian zone with cafes, shops and restaurants. Hotel Madan is an affordable example. The evening scene is good, a prosperous Mexican town, completely devoid of American tourists. People are really freindly. You are able to take a cab to Parque la Venta in the morning after which head to Palenque immediately after lunch.

Read MoreI choose to do the identical drive in March 07, hoping to quit at Tonina ruins. Will let you understand any information I get; would appreciate any assistance you come by. Thanks.
Read MoreWe did this trip as planned and had no complications. Road is indeed pretty windy with a great deal of topes, esp in between Ocosingo and Agua Azul – in a few locations beyond Agua Azul the locals had added stones along with other paraphernalia for the speed bumps, requiring all traffic to come to a quit and go by means of a single lane, but that seemed to much more so they could have a possibility to peddle refreshments to passing motorists as opposed to something far more nefarious. Count on 5 hours in the event you drive straight via. Tonina is certainly worth seeing- wonderful setting and there had been exactly two other tourists there during our visit.
Read MoreI drove specifically the opposite way: from Palenque to San Cristobal I asked a handful of locals (drivers and policemen) and tourist guides about how unsafe or harmful are the roads. They had been ideal: is secure in case you travel in the course of daylight. The road circumstances is significantly improved than some toll “highways” in the same provice (Chiapas), so dont be concerned an excessive amount of about it. Visiting Toniná takes about two hours, is 20 minutes away from Ocosingo town. My suggestions: be prepared to find Big and SLOW trailers, the vast majority in the trip is curved, then is challenging to pass these vehicles, at times it took 20 minutes at 20 km/h to find the appropriate space to pass them. The complete trip shouldnt take more than 10 hours. Oh, beware the speed reduction every village, a single at de begining and one particular at the end is for sure, some instances a handful of more whilst crossing them.

Read MoreIt is two hours from Villahermosa, too far (you would like to get for the ruins when they open at 8am to beat the heat, that is not actually avoidable anyway). We stayed in Cabanas Safari and loved it (see my evaluation)–jungle setting; for those who require air conditioning you will find plenty of places in the town of Palenque that could not be as good.
